I want to live simply. I want to sit by the window when it rains and read books I’ll never be tested on. I want to paint because I want to, not because I’ve got something to prove. I want to listen to my body, fall asleep when the moon is high and wake up slowly, with no place to rush off to. I want not to be governed by money or clocks or any of the artificial restraints that humanity imposes on itself. I just want to be, boundless and infinite.
Unfortunately, I was low on acrylic canvases, so I used a much thinner board. I was just getting started on the jellyfish and wanted to add more details, but I’m sad to say my board started to peel. It gave it a nice effect, though. I may revisit this concept. But, I enjoyed painting this very much!

I think whatever board you used was perfect. It needs nothing else.
But I also think that limitations are what allows us to shine. They force us to find our strengths. This painting wouldn’t exist if you weren’t using a thin, peeling board. You took what you had and you made beautiful, whimsical art. I think life, with all its tests and alarm clocks, is the same.
But the idea of boundless, giant jellyfish flying around the sky at night is a happy one. I hope you sell prints of this someday.

Have you ever heard of the immortal jellyfish? It’s pretty cute (and interesting) stuff.

Every one desires to be free from the restraints of money and time life but it are these restraints that allow us to push ourselves to the limit they make us realise the strenghts we never had and whats more…..if you set a goal for yourself without putting the restraints of time you will never achieve them. You will never be compelled to act upon it as there is no hurry to do it.It will keep getting delayed tommorow.

I think that’s the point. We will never have a utopian world, and there’s this idea that no one will ever be satisfy with anything. Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do I set goals?” Is it because you feel like you want to be better? Are you not good enough right now where you are at until you reach your goal? Many people set goals for the wrong reasons. What if you miss the deadline; does that mean you fail? Sure, I think goals are a great, but I think the world is so goal-oriented they forget their surroundings, and that the most important part of it is the sticking to a continuous process. Why am I painting every Thursday? Is it to prove that I can keep up with it? What happens if you reach your goal? Do you stop?
Anyway, the concepts that make up the “cosmic depression” are hazy. People should focus on being happy, and yes, set goals, but focus on the process. Goals are attainable, but they have deadlines and are meant to be demolished. That’s my take.
Alan Watts has a nice perspective – Check out “The World of Man and Nature”. Not saying I completely agree with everything, but some are closely similar to Carl Sagan’s view.
Nothing is boundless and infinite.

It is difficult to get permission for a simple life. So need to allow oneself. All the best.
